Roles of the cap negro/cap serrat Marine Protected Area in the Sustainability of Artisanal Fishing

Since its creation, ATDEPA has received financial assistance for the realization of the following projects :

The “MADPA” project was woven on the framework of the objectives of the MedPan project and the needs of the target population through a field diagnosis, reports of socio-economic studies (SMAPIII project), the guidelines and conclusions of the training and information workshop on sustainable and responsible fishing in marine protected areas and coastal in northern Tunisia and through the experience gained by the members of the association in the fishing sector and in the participatory approach.

The project team had also taken over the contact and coordination of joint actions with the Local Association for Integrated and Sustainable Development (ALDID) Cap Négro / Dmaien- Nefza and WWF Mediterranean Programme – Tunis Office.

ATDEPA organized two workshops: the first in collaboration with ALDID in the CAP NEGRO region, on Sunday, May 26, 2012. This workshop brought together 32 inhabitants of the area. This meeting also made it possible to highlight the concerns of the target population and to design, through the MADPA project, the possibilities of joint intervention by ATDEPA and ALDID through training and extension programs. Several questions about the role of the marine protected area and the place of the fisherman and the preservation of his interests have been clarified.

The second workshop was organized on Sunday, June 10, 2012, in the room of the SIDI MECHREG hostel and it brought together about thirty fishermen from the village. The approach at the level of this second workshop was different due to the reluctance of the target population and their questions about the future of fishing activity at the level of the marine protected area.
